Welcome to Phil & Steve's website dedicated to observational
comedy.
Phil Woods &
Steve Smith are two comedy writers and performers who have just had their first book released - `Beat About the Bush'
a very funny look at those things we say in everyday life without really thinking about it. Phil & Steve have also taken
a look at those annoying things in life, such as slippers with no backs. According to Phil & Steve, wearing slippers like
that is like putting the heating on in the winter and sticking your arse out of the door. Their fantastic look at life will
give everyone a lift even in these troublesome times. Phil & Steve are influenced by the work of Stephen Fry and Hugh
Laurie, specifically their TV sketch show 'A Bit of Fry & Laurie'. They say of their influences "Their comedy
writing is pure genius, their use of language made us take more notice of what people in everyday life were saying, we
then wrote down our take on these common cliches and phrases. Eventually we wrote more material and to this day we concentrate
on the funny side of language, hence the subtitle of our first book."
You may be asking yourself "What is observational comedy?" and if you are then don't because you will
look silly talking to your computer, instead why not think "What is observational comedy?" So you are fully in the
knowage I will be of an explaining nature - Observational comedy is the ability to take seemingly every day occurances and
see the funny side of them. To observe the norm and realise how silly it really is. Here is an example for you - Have you
ever had Cream of Vegetable Soup? Have you ever wondered how they get cream out of a vegetable? Surely it should be called
Vegetable and Cream soup instead. Can you imagine trying to Squeeze cream from a carrot? Or worse still is Cream of Mushroom
and Cream of Chicken, I'll leave you to imagine the rest!!!
